Welcome Home, Vietnam Veterans!

By: Sandra Thompson

On Thursday, March 26, we will be honoring our Vietnam veterans with a special program at our museum. Our guest speaker is Frank Grose who had a diverse 22-year career in the Army. He is a Master Army Aviator with 3500 hours, having flown CH-47 Chinooks in Vietnam, Korea, Fort Campbell, and Fort Rucker. The latter portion of his career was spent in research and development positions at Fort Rucker, Korea, and Huntsville, supporting UH-60 Black Hawk system testing, security assistance management, and strategic missile defense. He retired in 1988, at the rank of major.

During Frank’s 29-year post-military career as a defense contractor, he worked orbital space programs, supported the Missile Defense Agency with interceptor testing, and taught aerospace modeling and analysis techniques to members of the defense community. His military awards include the Air Medal with Valor and 28 Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Legion of Merit.

Frank and his wife, Wanda, have been residents of the Athens area since 1986. Their three sons live in the area, and all work in the defense industry. Frank maintains contact with several of his fellow veterans from his unit in Vietnam, and enjoys attending their annual reunions.

Please plan to join us for this program and lunch. For more info or to RSVP, call 256-771-7578.
