Slinkard On Success: Let God Be True And Every Man A Liar

By: D.A. Slinkard

We live in the day of fake news. We do not know if the leading story is true, and we sure do not know whom to trust. You can go to the self-help section of the bookstore and spend countless hours trying to find some help; or you can do what I suggest and invest in a good ole King James Bible. Anything and everything you need to know in life can be found right there in your Bible. I mentioned not knowing whom to trust, well the Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

This instruction is very easy to comprehend but extremely difficult to follow when it comes to the world we live in today. We think we are smarter than the average person, and we end up fooling ourselves into thinking we are something that we are not. How do we overcome the valleys in life? Easy, do what the Bible says and trust in the Lord with all your heart. By the way, while you are doing that go ahead and use the Bible for your final authority in faith and practice. What does that mean? It means if the Bible tells you to do something, just do it. How many heartaches in life could we avoid if we would just listen to what the Bible instructs us to do?

Psalm 119:128 says, “Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.” What does this mean? We need to first start with the definition of the word “precept,” and we find that it means a general rule intended to regulate behavior or thought. With this understanding, we can gather the Psalmist is saying if God is against something that we are for, we are the ones that are wrong, and God is right. If your pastor is preaching on something you do not like and he is using sound Bible doctrine and you disagree, just know you are disagreeing not with the pastor, but with God Almighty.

Proverbs 3:6 states, “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” This is where we miss the boat, especially when it comes to our nation. We have non-believers who are doing everything they can to remove any remnants of God, and Christians are rolling over allowing it to happen. If Christians started today living their life, acknowledging Him, I believe God would direct their paths and would change the wickedness going on in our land. God already tells us so in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

I hope you understand how powerful God’s Word truly is and the answer to our question about what we can do to help our country is not in gun control laws or in allowing abortions. The answer is found by turning to what God says in His Book. Proverbs 3:7, “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” The scriptures found in Proverbs 3:5-7 could have a lasting impact upon not just one person, but could have a lasting impact on our entire country. It is time we stop complaining that God is silent while our Bibles are closed. I hope this article has stirred your heart in a way that would move you to want to bring honor and glory to God with your life. Feel free to drop me a line, da.slinkard@gmail.com.
