On The Road Again

I always look forward to fall, and this fall is no exception. It has been so hot I am ready for cooler weather. The best part of cooler weather is getting out to see the leaves, or taking a trip to a local festival. At the Center for Lifelong Learning, we are planning trips for 2019 and getting ready for festival trips starting in October.

Join us for the trip to the Moundville Native American Festival on Friday, October 5, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The fee is $65 and includes entrance fees, performances, and transportation. Lunch is on your own. This festival brings together presenters, entertainers, craftsmen, and artists to educate visitors about the rich culture and heritage that make the Southeastern Indians unique.

In December, we will be traveling to Franklin, Tennessee, for the Dickens of a Christmas Festival on Saturday, December 8, from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The fee is $65 and includes transportation, entrance fees, and a snack. This annual street festival recreates the time of Charles Dickens using historic downtown Franklin’s Victorian architecture as the backdrop. Lunch is on your own.

This fall, at the Center for Lifelong Learning, we are doing a couple of Armchair Travels. An Armchair Travel is a picture presentation of a recent trip. It is a way to see the world without leaving your home base.

The first Arm Chair Travel is Journey to Israel. More than 3000 pictures of Israel were taken on this trip. Of course, we can’t show you all of them. Bring your lunch and join us. The presentation is scheduled Thursday, September 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The fee is $10 and it includes snacks.

The second Arm Chair Travel – Iceland’s Northern Lights – is scheduled Tuesday, November 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This presentation features pictures from Iceland. Iceland is a Nordic island nation with the smallest population of any European country. It runs almost completely on geothermal energy. In the pictures, you will see geysers, hot springs, lava fields, glaciers, and so much more. The fee is $10 and it includes snacks.

We have been really busy putting together our 2019 travel schedule. We are featuring day-trips each month, with something for everyone. There are trips featuring food, and trips to museums. We will learn new hobbies, and do a little shopping. Won’t you join us?
