Last week, the Center was designated a Power Up location by Athens City Schools. Power Up is the Athens City Schools initiative to “provide a challenging, dynamic academic program that integrates the best of traditional education with new and emerging technologies.” The goal of the project is to create greater access to computer technology by giving students access to a MacBook Air laptops. If you want to know more about this project, the school district has a wonderful website with lots of information about the program. You can visit http://powerup.businesscatalyst.com/.
We are excited to be a Power Up location for the schools. The Center is a safe afterschool location for kids to do homework. Our lobby area offers a comfortable and casual atmosphere in which to relax while taking advantage of our free Wi-Fi. Also, Square Clock Coffee is offering an afterschool special prices for smoothies this week.
Remember we are a Power Up location for adults too. When you take your coffee break, you can stop by and re-group in our lobby, loft, or small lobby. We offer quiet spaces to meet and greet, or just to relax and catch up on reading or email. Square Clock has muffins, coffees, and lunch options available every day.
Our 415 square foot lobby is also available to host small parties or gatherings up to 75 guests and can be configured to accommodate 40 to 50 people for special occasions. We also have a small lobby outside the Conference Room that can accommodate up to 10 in casual seating or around a table.
Many of our guests prefer the loft area overlooking the Lobby for a casual and cozy setting for smaller groups. The mezzanine is a bright and open 2,500 square area is designed to accommodate all types of events, both large and small, from 12 to 200 guests. It is perfect for conferences, receptions, luncheons and dinners, recitals, and association gatherings.
All of our spaces, including training room and conference room are available for rent. Call Leisl Stanford at 256-233-8264 for more information about fees and caterers.
It is also time to start thinking about the Community Chorus. If you are a singer and miss being in a chorus, we have an opportunity for you. The Athens Community Chorus will join with the Decatur Civic Chorus to perform in November. This chorus is open to teens and adults of all ages. Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, September 8th from 6:30-8:00pm. Transportation is provided to Fort Decatur for the kick-off. Our fall program is a selection of gospel classics.
