Leaps of Faith
In my last article, I talked a little bit about deciding on what to let go of in my life, and this is my last week at my traditional 9-5 job; and yes, I am scared to death. Even though I am scared to make this jump, I am overwhelmed with excitement and the sense of God’s hand in my life. My husband and I have been faithfully in prayer about what direction to steer our life. We feel strongly that God has lead us to this point in our lives, and we are trying faithfully to walk on the water with him.
As a woman in today’s society, I feel immense pressure from the world to be career minded, keep my house in tiptop shape, raise the best children, always be my best…but in reality, I am not able to be everything for everyone. I knew that if I stayed on the path I was on, something would not get my absolute best. I had to make a choice. My husband and I sat down last year and decided what was most important in this world for us. We came to the conclusion that we wanted to focus on family. Focus on each other and adoption. Focus on our relationship with Christ and helping bring others to know his love. We weren’t focused on growing our portfolio or moving into a much larger house in two years. We wanted to focus on family and Christ. This lead to the decision for me to quit my fulltime job and focus on the business we have started and on adopting a child into our lives.
We understand that not everyone has to quit their job to be focused on family. This was just the best decision for our family. While on vacation, I bought a framed print that says: “The most important work you will ever do will be within the walls of your home.” (Harold B. Lee) Reading this quote helped seal the decision in our minds for me to step down from the job I had held for our entire marriage. We are continually asking for prayers for guidance and wisdom as we step out of the boat and onto the water to follow Christ.
I am also hoping this newfound focus on family will help me become more focused on my health again. I have not been focused on eating healthy at all, you guys. I mean, if something looks good, I’ve been eating it. But with this newfound focus on family, I have a renewed sense of wanting to be healthy. This week’s recipe is a delicious one-pot dish that is perfect for families or just the two of you. I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!
These commandment that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:6-7
