One of the most beautiful words in the English language is hope. Webster’s Dictionary defines hope as “A desire of some good, accompanied with an expectation of obtaining it, or a belief that it is obtainable; an expectation of something which is thought to be desirable; confidence; pleasing expectancy.” The word hope seems to bring a wave of peace over you when someone says the word. I saw a beautiful anacronym for the word hope this week: Hold On Pain Ends. What a marvelous way to explain the beauty of this word.

The knowing that if you can hold on for a moment longer the pain will end. This doesn’t mean that you will always be pain free, but it does give you the comfort of knowing that it will end. I have heard my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles…everyone say, “There is light at the end of the tunnel.” That is hope. After the darkness, light comes.

In knowing all this, how do you hold on to hope? You do this by never giving up. Even when it seems that life is impossible, you can pull through! There is someone that is depending on you to come through your storm to the other side. They will use your story, your struggle will become their hope.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
