Fun With Art – Learning As A Lifestyle
By: Wanda Campbell
At the Athens State Center for Lifelong Learning, we offer programs for adults and children. We have been hosting pottery classes at the Alabama Center for the Arts for two years. We offer both the Introduction to Pottery and an Introduction to Wheel Throwing. They have become very popular. This summer we will introduce Raku Pottery, a low firing method that involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. Watch the website – www.athens.edu/CLL – for more information or call 256-233-8260.
In May, we will introduce 3-D Art for adults. This class is also for beginners and includes a lawn sculpture made from papier mâché and an introduction to macramé. Class is scheduled Mondays, May 6t – June 3r, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Alabama Center for the Arts.
Our Blacksmith class is another popular class. This ancient art is for the person who wants to build with their hands. The class teaches the basic blacksmithing techniques of forging metal using tools to hammer, bend, and shape. Watch the website for the next class.
