The fun the kids have been waiting for since last year arrives with the Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival at 309 East Forrest Street in Athens is back! Now through July 30th, the kids can come out on Thursday through Saturday and enjoy the carnival from 6:30PM to 9:30PM. The Kiddie Carnival will be closed on July 4th so that workers may enjoy the festivities with their families.
On July 1st our Summer Concert Series continues with Glenn Hall and DJs and Friends at the Vietnam Veterans Bldg 17915 West Elm Street Athens, AL. Athens-Limestone County Tourism and sponsor Jimmy Smith Buick – GMC bring you this great oldies concert at no charge. It begins at 6:00PM. Later, head to the Downtown Square to see the Cars and Trucks at the monthly Cruise In, Downtown Athens, AL. Bring your hot rod, motorcycle, truck or unique vehicle and park on the square to share your love of automobiles with other enthusiast from 3:00PM to 6:00PM. Shop the boutiques and stores, and enjoy a meal downtown at one of the restaurants.
The July 4th Athens Firework Show will be held at Athens High School Stadium 100 U.S. Highway 31N Athens, AL. The sky above the Athens High School Stadium (no seating in stadium) will be filled with a colorful display of fireworks after the sun has gone down. Location and directions: From Interstate 65: Take Exit 354 south and travel three traffic lights. Location on left. Parking is available at adjacent businesses along U.S. Highway 31. Spectators can bring blankets and chairs to sit outside the stadium and around the Athens Recreation Center and Swan Creek Park areas. Weather conditions permitting, the show will start at dark, which should be between 8:45 to 9 p.m. Central Church of Christ next to the Athens High School stadium on U.S. 31 will host the 4th of July Community Cook-Out, which is free and open to the public. Starting at 6 p.m., the church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks as long a supplies last. The band “Dean” will perform at 7 p.m. In addition, there will be cornhole tournament, face painting, games and activities for the children.
