Blake’s Beat – Register Now for Upcoming Rodeo Queen Clinic
By: Blake Williams
An upcoming rodeo queen clinic is hoping to bring back the basics to address all aspects of participating in a rodeo queen pageant, with a focus on the requirements of the Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo Queen Pageant.
The two-day clinic is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on March 6, 2021, at 2~S Arena located at 26155 Thach Road. Potential contestants and their support group will have the opportunity to learn the best pageant qualifications of appearance (hair, makeup, clothing), public introduction/speaking, modeling, interviews, impromptu questioning, outfit preparation, and horsemanship. The information can also be used to prepare for the Miss Rodeo USA Pageant. The horsemanship portion of the clinic will take place on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the arena.
The cost of the clinic is $30. There is an observer fee of $15. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided to those who attend. For those who just want to attend the horsemanship portion, the cost is $30.
The clinic will be hosted by Abigail Benz, Miss Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo 2020, and the Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo Pageant Committee. The clinic will also feature Dakota Missildine Johnson, Miss Rodeo USA 2010, and Kelly Payton Weathersby, Miss Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo 1992.
Kellie Barron, 2021 Limestone County Sheriff Rodeo Queen Pageant Committee member, explains why this clinic is beneficial for all potential contestants.
“Back to basics means simplifying the more expensive aspects of queening and focusing more on the foundation of it,” said Barron. “The main goal is to build strong young women through enhancing self-confidence along with more knowledge of horses, rodeo, social and interviewing skills.”
Barron says each contestant will learn characteristics that they can carry them through the rest of their life.
Those who wish to attend the clinic must pre-register by March 1. To download the registration packet, you can visit the pageant tab on the rodeo’s website at https://limestonesheriffrodeo.com/2021/02/09/2021-rodeo-queen-clinic/ or by emailing Jennifer McBay at jmcbay@limestonesheriff.com.
