Independence Day is just around the corner, and there are some exciting events coming to Limestone County. Whether you are looking for fun with the family or want to celebrate with a bang – it will be happening here.
The Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival, located on East Forrest Street in Athens, opens June 28 for Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (except July 4th) with 10 rides for the kids, bingo, and concessions for the kids at heart. Each ride is 1 ticket, each ticket is only $0.50 – so it’s an excellent night of fun and memory making for all generations.
Feeling hungry? Grab the family and head out to appease your appetite at the Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned Elkmont Lions Club Smokin’ Railroad Street BBQ Cookoff on June 29 and 30, in the heart of downtown Elkmont. People’s Choice tickets are just $2.00 and are a great way to sample the competitors. Plus vendors, live music, and concessions can keep you entertained and happy, too.
Have boat and want to hit the water with your family and friends? June 30 is the 12th Annual Elk River Boat Party on Anderson Creek just off the Elk River starting at 3:00 p.m. This boat-only party will be rocking the water with live music and fun.
The big firework show comes to Athens High School stadium on July 4 with Red, White and Boom! This year’s event is part of our bicentennial celebration, and there will be specially designed t-shirts reflecting the occasion. New this year will be the addition of music set to the fireworks that will be hosted on Cat County WSLV’s new FM station, 105.1. So, as the rockets sail into the sky, you can enjoy the synchronized music sponsored by Huntsville International Airport. See y’all there!
