The weekend of August 3 and 4 are definitely days to enjoy with the Piney Chapel American Farm Heritage Days in Athens, and the Ardmore Police Reserve and Fire Rodeo in Ardmore. Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival has two weekends of fun left, after adding one week to their 2018 season to meet the demand for the new Scrambler ride – Thursday, Friday and Saturday Aug 2, 3, and 4, and August 9, 10, and 11. Singing on the Square will be October 10 with the Athens State Community Band. August 25 has Elkmont High School revving up the fun as the Elkmont Car Show comes to town. Ardmore Crape Myrtle Festival comes to Ardmore Avenue on the August 25 with music, vendors, and more.
You’ll find quite a few ways of helping the community and enjoying a good meal, too, this month. Don’t miss the fish fry Friday, August 3, at the Piney Chapel American Farm Heritage Days. Eat Wings, Raise Funds for Elkmont Volunteer Fire Department at Buffalo Wild Wings is August 8. The 9/11 Heroes Run Pancake Breakfast will be August 11. Looking for a plate of fried fish? Don’t miss the fish fry at Elkmont Volunteer Fire Department on August 11 or the West Limestone High School Volleyball Swamp John’s Dinner on August 29. The 20th Anniversary Celebration Show for the Alabama Veterans Museum will be August 19 at 2 p.m. at the Senior Center on Pryor St. Tickets are available at the museum – $10 adults and $5 for 12-under. August 20 is the Vietnam Veterans of America all-you-can-eat spaghetti lunch and dinner for $7 per person. Eat in or carry out.

Alabama 200 PastPort Update
Great news for those wanting to explore the people, places, and stories of Alabama as we commemorate 200 years of Alabama’s history and heritage. The Alabama 200 Commission has announced the release of the free AL200 PastPort app at the app stores for Apple and Android.
If you want to get your AL200 PastPorts stamped in Limestone County, here’s the information you need to know. The Mooresville Post Office is open Monday-Saturday from 8:00-10:00 a.m., the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives is open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-3:00 p.m., and the historic Donnell House is offering free PastPort Tours on Tuesdays 10:00 a.m.-noon and Thursdays from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Bicentennial t-shirts are still available for purchase at the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center. Available in medium to 3XL, the limited edition t-shirt features the Alabama 200 logo as well as the Athens-Limestone AL bicentennial logo.
