“In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.” – 2 Kings 20:1
As we engage in this year 2018, I ponder over what Hezekiah must have thought when he was told to get his house in order. As we all know, “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Hebrews 9:27
When we think about our house, it is often the one we have purchased, leased, or rented for ourselves. We decorate it, maintain it, and do whatever we need to make everyone feel at home and welcoming. Over the years, I feel like I never have had time to just enjoy our home. Yes, I go to work, come home, take care of chores, get off to sleep, and then up and out the door to start the process all over again, not really enjoying what I spend so much time working for.
I am sure you all can relate in some way or another, but realization has really been hitting home with me these last few months. The realization that our house is actually the one we personally live in…not the one we are buying, leasing, or renting but the one we were given when we were born. The house we inhabit daily – our internal body, our spirit, the inner most part of us. Yes, that’s the one! We so often dress the outside, being so careful to look our very best, but give not even a second thought about the real house given to us at birth – our Soul! How is it clothed? ”Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12
Is your house in order? Because ultimately, what is home – You are. Your body is your house! – M. Abramovic
